The completely unfiltered diary of a 23-year-old (week 56)

I’d forgotten to plug in my laptop while using it today, and miraculously, it stayed powered on for more than 15 seconds. In fact, I’ve used it for maybe 15 minutes and it’s completely fine.

Now I really do suspect that the “replace your battery” warning was really a scam. Maybe after resetting my laptop twice, it’s forgotten that it’s supposed to have a faulty battery.

Take that, Dell.

(And hopefully it doesn’t suddenly crash again, as some form of vengeance.)

Anyway, for context — a few months ago my laptop started dying within 15 seconds of the charger being removed. So these few months, whenever I used my laptop, I’d be tethered to the charging outlet with a roughly 1 meter range of movement. i.e. pivoting from the desk to my bed, which are both within 0.5m of the charging outlet. Kinda like a cow tethered to a post. On a meter-long rope.

The error message had been something like “your battery can no longer provide sufficient power to your system and needs to be replaced.”

Well, we’ll see how long this miracle lasts.

.

It’s about 5 minutes later and Dell has struck back.

I spoke too soon and I regret that.

Thankfully, after immediately plugging the charger back in, everything’s fine. The laptop booted up almost immediately.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

I’ve been a complete sloth this past week. I just tried shuffling to some 120 BPM music and it was tiring. Fitness levels really do degrade quickly.

That one week of post-vaccination exercise abstinence (lol) really did me in. Ok, no, that’s just an excuse. I’m just lazy.

It was fun though. The kind of fun workout that you just do without feeling like you’re purposely working out. Starting really is the hardest part.

Or, in my case, pulling on a pair of fresh socks for shuffling on the parquet floor.

Work has been decently busy. I think I’ve been putting in pretty honest hours at work this past week.

I just had a Zoom call with some friends, and damn, I’ve missed them. It was nice.

These restrictions and the lack of socializing is definitely taking its toll.

I went for a slow run for maybe 10 minutes, and my heart rate hit 200 BPM. Apparently, your maximum heart rate is supposed to be 220 minus your age — i.e. 197 in my case. Not good. Gotta try to keep that fitness up, at least at some acceptable level.

My Fiverr gig impressions have jumped from the 100s into over 450 for the past two days. Not sure what happened there — could be that I accepted a few orders without pausing the gig. I haven’t seen these kinds of numbers in months. I think my highest was may 1.5k, back in 2020. But that could just be a false memory.

As I’m finding the previous week’s entry to paste in the link, I can’t believe it was just last week (or technically just under two weeks ago) that I’d received that weird order from the Ukrainian surrogacy agency. Good thing I have this journal for reference. Time has lost all form — I can’t recall what’s happened in the past few days, let alone last week. That felt like a month ago.

Guess that means there’s more going on in my life than I realize.

xo,

Amber
